Aquarium Shaker Card

Hi everyone,
I made this Aquarium shaker card for Nini's Things.

~My Process~

Firstly I cut my card base, coloured cardstock, watercolour piece and acetate with Nini's Things Designer Collection Dies (Rectangle Nesting Shapes and Stitched Borders) with my Sizzix Big Shot.

**The mustard yellow swirly line is the sized dies I used, so I hope it makes sense. Click on the images below to have a larger view.**

Once I cut out the sand and watercolour pieces, I used Tim Holtz Distress Stain in 'Broken China' for the water and 'Scattered Straw' for the sand. I spritzed water from my Distress Sprayer onto the watercolour piece for a under-watery kind of effect, heat set with my heat tool and then stamped Kaszazz's 'Bubbles Background' with Brilliance ink in 'Moonlight White' onto the water to add a bubble effect using the brand new Tim Holtz Stamp Platform.

I adhered the water piece to the card base and then stamped out "You're Fintastic!" from Lawn Fawn's 'Fintastic Friends' stamp set with Brilliance ink 'Graphite Black'.

Then I used Memento ink pad in Tuxedo Black to stamp out all of the images from Lawn Fawn's 'Fintastic Friends' and 'Mermaid For You' stamp sets onto X-Press It Blending Card. I cut them all out with my Brother Scan N Cut and then coloured them all in with Copic Ciao markers. The seaweed is a die from 'Mermaid for You', that I cut using my Sizzix Big Shot and coloured in with a Copic Ciao marker.

After I coloured all the images I then adhered them to the water piece and onto the sand. I adhered the sand to the back of the border frame and then added the acetate to it. I doubled up Scotch Foam Tape so the shaker mix won't clump and get stuck, and added it to the card base/water piece and carefully on the back of the acetate where the sand is.

I used a tiny spoonful of Nini's Things shaker mix in 'Ocean Breeze' and carefully took out the flower sequins leaving the pretty shimmery blues. I then used the EK Success powder tool around the edges of the foam tape so the sequins wouldn't get stuck to it and then I adhered the acetate piece to the card base.

Thank you for visiting my blog and feel free to let me know what you think of this card in the comments below.

  1. This is so cute and perfectly done!! I'm not very good at setting up scenes on my cards. This is brilliant and love the background you created too. I never thought to use powder on my edges to stop the sequins sticking, genius!!
